Violent Crimes

Serious Charges, With Serious Consequences

Tolbert LawSome of the most severe charges you can face are those involving violent crime. Penalties almost always include prison time as an option. Furthermore, a permanent record for a felony will follow you for the rest of your life, limiting your job and living opportunities. Facing these charges can also be difficult because of motivations on the other side. Law enforcement and prosecutors will work together to get a conviction, and they do not care about whether or not you are innocent.

This can make it extremely hard to advocate for yourself: you must have representation, and you should seek a lawyer who truly believes in you and is dedicated to getting you a favorable outcome. That is what we offer at Tolbert Law.

Protecting Your Right To A Fair Trial

Tolbert Law is committed to getting you the outcome you deserve. We represent clients accused of serious violent crimes such as:

  • Assault and battery. Though you may think these charges are interchangeable, they actually are two separate charges that combine to create a more serious one. Assault is the threat of violence, while battery is the actual action. Sometimes, if the event is considered more serious, prosecutors will seek charges of aggravated assault and battery, which has the potential of more serious penalty as well.
  • Robbery. This is the theft of money or property, obtained through violence or the threat of violence. In Texas, consequences for this charge are intense: it is a felony, and can get you up to 20 years in prison.
  • Sexual offenses. This includes sexual assault, molestation, possession of child pornography and more. These are especially serious because a conviction can force you to register with the sex offender registry, which can ruin your reputation.
  • Homicide. This is potentially the most serious charge you can face, with the possibility of decades in prison.

With these charges, you may feel you are guilty until proven innocent rather than the other way around. Our society holds them in very low regard. However, it is important to remember that the United States Constitution guarantees you a right to a fair trial. You deserve justice, and you deserve a lawyer who will work hard on your behalf to get you that justice.
